Samui Wining & Dining
ITALIAN DEDICATION
Prego Italian Restaurant truly is for everyone.

p32-1Marco Boscaini left Milan, Italy many years ago and has been found safe and well on the paradise island of Koh Samui, with no plans to return home! “I have no real reasons for going home these days,” he says, “because my family, they are here, and I am passionate about Prego.”

If you have ever visited Samui before, or are a resident here, you will definitely have heard rave reviews of Prego Italian Restaurant. Marco set up Prego 15 years ago, in conjunction with Amari Koh Samui just opposite, setting out to bring a smattering of Italian cuisine to this popular island, long before international fare emerged on the scene, and when Samui was just a sleepy island where chicken noodle soup, fried rice and green curry were your staple meals out!

The clever guys at Amari chose to keep the new and sophisticated eatery separate from the resort across the road, mindful that non-guests can be uncomfortable about straying into a resort restaurant when they are not resident. Consequently, Prego, which is located on Chaweng Beach Road, is now a hub of activity all year-round, attracting both holidaymakers and locals from all over the island. Staunchly loyal to Italian cuisine and authentic ingredients, but now with a far wider, more international audience, Chef Marco has made a bit of a name for himself. The popular eatery is now famed for its culinary experimentation, as he creatively combines traditional recipes with a few contemporary twists to keep things fresh and interesting. Check the website for up to date promotions on his latest creations!

The results speak for themselves. Prego is always busy, habitually buzzing with the atmosphere of happy and contented diners, many of whom are repeat holidaymakers or local residents. The menu offers all areas of Italian cuisine; seafood, meat, pasta, pizza, risotto, salads, divine desserts, wine and coffee, including decaffeinated coffee. The pasta is all hand-made and rolled on the premises. Every pizza is baked to perfection over eucalyptus wood in the special brick built pizza oven, always kept at the perfect baking temperature.Prego Italian Restaurant truly is for everyone. Choose one of Chef Marco’s clever combinations, or create your own individual pizza with a wealth of toppings to choose from.

Now if you’re thinking, ‘That’s great and I would love a hot cheesy pizza but I shouldn’t or can’t eat gluten or cheese,’ don’t despair, Chef Marco’s dedication to ensure that everyone is welcome and goes home happy, shines through. Ask for the ‘Gluten Free and Vegan Menu’ specifically designed to allow you access to all that great Italian comfort food. All bread, pizza, pasta and desserts on this menu are absolutely free of any pesky gluten! Pasta dishes can be back on your radar. And vegan cheeses allow you to enjoy all the subtle flavours of your favourite pizza with that ‘oh so necessary’ scrumptious melted cheese! Other dishes worth mentioning are the Risotto con Funghi Porcini (risotto with porcini mushrooms) and if you eat fish or meat, you will be sorely tempted by Griliata di Pesce,
a grilled seafood platter with rosemary garlic potatoes. Or Costolette di Agnello, oven baked lamb rack with fresh herbs, pecorino polenta and vegetable caponata. This special menu even has super tasty desserts. Try the Tortino di Cioccolato, which delightfully translates to chocolate cake with a soft heart. The soft heart being blissful, pure melted chocolate. Yes, at Prego you can have your glutenfree, vegan cake and eat it!

In fact, if you have any food intolerances or are on a special diet, just ask. Chef Marco is more than happy to make suggestions and accommodate your requirements by rustling up some amazing Italian fare which is just up your alley.

The interior is tastefully furnished, and exudes a calm, gentile ambience with low lighting and a pleasing sense of welcoming spaciousness throughout.
