Chilled-out Sundays and fun on tap at Beach Republic.

It may fall short of being a country in its own right, but Beach Republic is definitely a place apart, and an amazing one at that. As soon as you cross into its territory, you’re leaving behind the stresses and strains of life and becoming an instant citizen of a much more laid-back place.

On arrival, you’ll immediately note that the architecture is very different to anything else on the island. A wavy-topped, open-sided dining pavilion awaits. There are plenty of tables and oodles of space, but you can also sit out at small thatched salas that line the beachfront here. Wherever you choose, friendly staff are there to welcome and help you.

Beach Republic is well away from Lamai itself, and close to nature. It’s set a little way up a clearly sign-posted lane on the eastern edges of town, close to the IT Centre. The beach here, with sand and small coves, is backed by palm trees, and is everything you’d look for in a tropical coastline. Not one but two swimming pools are situated right by the beach, yours to enjoy and frolic in. Guest DJs and live performances are part of the daytime fun here. Food and drink is always available, and virtually every day there’s a promotion or special discount of some kind. Check out the website for precise details.

But there’s one day in the week that is a fixture, rain or shine, and it’s so successful that it’s become an island feature on social calendars. Known as the Sunday Sessions, it’s one of Samui’s foremost beach brunches. If you think of an excellent feast along with a friendly, Chilled-out Sundays and fun on tap at Beach Republic.sociable vibe you’ll have an idea of what goes on here.

The brunch takes place every Sunday from 11:30 am until 3:30 pm, with a DJ playing till sundown. You’ll almost certainly feel like lingering, and you’re welcome to do so. The brunch features dozens of dishes, and you really need to come hungry as there’s so much food.

And there’s no need to worry that the food will suddenly run out. It won’t.

The quantity is staggering. Each Sunday, Beach Republic seems to be expecting an invasion of sumo wrestlers and triathlon competitors! Yet for all that, this is definitely not a question of pile-it-high-as-you-can fare, because the quality is there too, and we mean by that, top quality that will satisfy everyone - foodies, gourmets, chefs and so on. Everything is delicious.

It’ll probably be the sushi, smoked Scottish salmon and gravlax Tasmanian salmon that first catches your eye – a colourful display of totally fresh seafood. Then close by you’ll see a bed of Fine-de-Claire oysters and New Zealand mussels. Not in the mood for fish? No worries – an equal focus is on the cold cuts which include plenty of Iberico ham. You’ll also be able to indulge in some highly tasty cheeses and a range of breads.Chilled-out Sundays and fun on tap at Beach Republic.

Salads, by the way, aren’t the usual kind where you need to chomp your way through with no enthusiasm – instead put together your very own, using your favourite ingredients and you’ll have something that you’ll find tempting.

Chefs wait to take your orders at the various cooking stations. Simply select what you would like and indulge in lamb, chicken and beef. Many guests gravitate towards the excellent traditional British Sunday lunch with roast beef, gravy and the generously-sized Yorkshire puddings. There are plenty of mains, whether you’re looking for meats, seafood or vegetarian options.

Desserts are as decadent as you wish them to be. There are plenty of cut tropical fruits to end your brunch with but you’re bound to be tempted by the other treats on offer, delights such as chocolate mousse, tiramisu and eclairs as well as cakes and tarts.

Drinks haven’t been skimped on and you’ll find a satisfying array of beer, cocktails or wine, along with a multitude of soft drinks. Various drink options are possible – just choose which one is most suitable for you.

Even if you can’t make it for the brunch, come any day and enjoy lunch or dinner from the highly tasty à la carte menu. Or, even better, since Beach Republic is a beach club, arm yourself with a day pass and enjoy the swimming pool, laying out on a sun bed or having your own pavilion for the day. Chill-out and enjoy the atmosphere of being at this unique island setting.
