Discover the extraordinary world of Anantara Spa Bophut.

Holidays are all about unwinding, but even the best of vacations can sometimes bring a stress all of their own. Or maybe they can just be a little too exciting. Whatever the reasons are, sometimes we all need to take a break while on holiday. There is plenty of choice on Samui when it comes to spas and massage, but if you are looking for something beyond the usual, a sanctuary dedicated to relaxation, where the cares of the world drop away, then there are relatively few places to go. Anantara Spa Bophut is one of Samui’s most thrilling finds; enter it and you find a private space where you have time to reset and return to your senses.

The spa is one of the most spectacular on the island, and was designed by award-winning starchitect Bill Bensley. You’ll find it at Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort. You sense that it is going to be a stellar experience as soon as you turn off the ring-road. Where else would you cross a wooden bridge with a traditional Thai arch and go across a moat? You feel that you are leaving the world behind you and entering exciting new territory. The sense of stepping into an extraordinary place only deepens once you’re led into the spa area. The reception is housed over a beautiful water garden and exudes peace and relaxation.

Here you will be brought a chilled pandanus tea while you leaf through the spa menu. This is just part of the welcome; the receptionist will spend time with you in a consultation where you make your needs and requests known. Let her know if you have any sensitive areas, for example, or preferences. Now it’s time to decide which treatment you would like,
P38-3 although you may well already have made your choice, as everything can be seen on the website.

Once ready, you will be taken through into a walled garden, where a line of massive ornate doors takes you into the luxurious treatment rooms. First though, you may well want to take some photos as the entire spa is so intensely beautiful. Instagram hits are made of settings like this – there’s plenty of visual inspiration. But the real journey is of course the treatment you will have chosen.

The spa menu details a full range of treatments that covers the different massages, including stress relief and jet-lag massages, along with body wraps, scrubs and facials. Beauty treatments are also available, and then there are various packages, depending on how much time you have. Soak in hot tubs filled with petals, come with your partner and enjoy couples treatments, and detox in herbal steam rooms before taking rain showers. Let the dedicated teams of masseuses knead away all stresses using both ancient and modern techniques.

Opt for the Anantara Bophut Coconut Dream package and you’ll have an amazingly relaxed time. After a foot washing ritual, you’ll stand on the two halves of coconuts to check pressure points in the feet; this gives the masseuse a good idea where to concentrate.
P38-4The massage that follows borrows the best of both Thai and western traditions with part of the treatment being an abdomen massage with warm coconut. An equally good package to try is the Himalayan Thermal Therapy. Harnessing the ancient energy of the Himalayan Mountains, the masseuse uses artisan, hand-carved Himalayan salt stones to dissolve all your mental and physical tension. These ethically sourced stones reintroduce 84 minerals and trace elements to the body to induce the ultimate state of equilibrium while encouraging the body’s natural detoxification.
As you transcend into a state of total relaxation, a facial massage using iced Rose Quartz Gua Sha crystals relieves muscle tension, stimulates circulation and leaves your skin with a glow. This full body ritual is crowned with a deeply rejuvenating head massage based on the ancient techniques of Indian head massage but with an Anantara signature twist.

If you would like to indulge yourself a little more seriously, opt for the All-Inclusive Three-Day Wellness Package. Over three days you will experience life in the slow lane – time to unwind, de-stress and feel healthy once again. For this you will actually be staying at Anantara Bophut, and will be able to rise with the sun to practice yoga or qi gong (there is even a specially built yoga sala) and meditate to feel even more relaxed. Combine this with sessions in the spa and just chilling out at the resort.

The package includes three nights’ accommodation, three healthy meals per full day and free roundtrip airport transfers.

Day one consists of an hour’s detox massage and a meditation session for 30 minutes. Wind up with a Revive & Refresh juice.

Day two begins with sunrise yoga, and later a Thai herbal steam for 30 minutes, followed by a Thai massage for 90 minutes. In addition, there’s a meditation session for 30 minutes and a rejuvenating juice.

Day three starts with a sunrise qi gong session with a later highlight, an hour’s stress release massage finishing with an energizer juice.

As you can see, the entire package is designed to be as relaxing as possible, and there’s plenty of time between sessions to enjoy the beauty of the island. If that’s not enough, there’s also the All-Inclusive Five-Day Wellness Package. It’s similarly put together and is equally relaxing.

With such a memorable setting, this spa is sure to remain on your mind for years to come. The great treatments, wonderful staff and the sheer bliss on offer here make Anantara Spa Bophut a top venue for relaxation and pampering. Whether you come for an hour or a day or anything in between, both satisfaction and amazement are guaranteed.
