An inspirational interior, a beautiful bay and the finest food makes Ad Hoc Beach Café unmissable.

This delightful restaurant is a favourite place for lunch and dinner thanks to an appreciative crowd of repeat diners who love coming here. Welcome to the world of Ad Hoc Beach Café, a brilliant choice when it comes to laid-back dining, with the accent on Mediterranean and Italian fare. The restaurant is housed in a beautiful old-style house that sits right by the shore. You’ll have to decide whether to sit outside on the terrace, directly overlooking the sea or in the quietly elegant dining room. Either option is good. Traditional houses such as these, once so numerous, are now sadly becoming a bit of a rarity. Ad Hoc is definitely an architectural treat in itself, and adds to the overall atmosphere of romance. The bay where Ad Hoc is situated is dotted with a few seaside houses, but there’s no cluttered companionship with other venues. The restaurant has a deliciously secluded feel to it. You’ll find it just a few hundred metres from Fisherman’s Village on the coast road as you head towards Bangrak. It’s open every day from 3:00 pm until 9:30 pm, except Sundays.

          

You may want to spend quite some time soaking up the ambience, and there’s a selection of cocktails and drinks to help deepen the relaxing mood here. The menu has a pleasing selection of delights, a good many of which have been kept by popular demand – the restaurant’s repeat guests seem to have an active hand in ensuring some items stay on the menu. Other dishes are, as the name of the restaurant suggests,P84-4 impromptu additions, with various offerings changing on a fairly frequent basis. The combination works well, and Ad Hoc always offers its favourites along with a beautifully curated selection of starters, mains and desserts. Dishes are all beautifully presented, while tastes are utterly moreish. If eating ever becomes a jaded affair, then Ad Hoc is certainly a pleasing find. The ingredients are all top-quality with everything being totally fresh. Wherever possible the island’s gardens and orchards are the suppliers, with fish being caught in local waters.

          

Lunchtime favourites include the excellent range of burgers, sandwiches and snacks, made with a lot more care and attention than most beachside food ever sees. The professionalism pays off in satisfied diners, and even if it’s just a lunch you’re after while touring the island,
 Ad Hoc will go beyond your expectations.

          

And it’s the same when it comes to dinners. Opt for the delicious Beef Carpaccio or the Tuna Tartar to begin with, and then move on to enjoyable mains such as the home-made Pappardelle Lamb Ragu or the slow-cooked Lamb Shoulder. Steaks get no better than the 200g Australian tenderloin. And if you’d like a dish with a hint of Japan, the Black Angus Sirloin Beef Teriyaki is a wonderfully satisfying choice. Pasta is also on the menu – try the Lemon Crab Meat Pasta for a light, refreshing dish, which goes well with the Soft Shell Crab Curry. P84-3A sumptuous seafood platter awaits if you’re looking for seafood, and there’s seabass and line-caught fish too, depending on what’s good at the market.

          

Ad Hoc is a place where you can enjoy some very fine wines, and there’s a way-above-average choice, with plenty of French and Italian wines – and, good news, they’re all affordable. The food, too, is also reasonably priced and equally great value.

          

There’s a generous happy hour from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with hefty discounts on red and white wine by the glass, along with beers and spirits. Better still there’s a special menu of light bites to go with the drinks. These include spicy sausage, Caesar salad and skewers of chicken satay.

          

In addition, Ad Hoc is a great venue for a party. The setting alone is wonderful as is the fact that the location’s isolated. The chefs are used to staging all kinds of events, whether large or small, formal or informal, and are happy to design a completely bespoke menu with you, if required. They’ll handle everything, guaranteeing you a seamlessly good time.

          

Ad Hoc Beach Café is one of those places where you feel you want to stay long after you’ve finished the excellent desserts. It seems to be made for lingering. And with amazing food and a wonderful setting, great wines and good pricing, it’s hardly a surprise that Ad Hoc is so highly recommended.
