Samui Wining & Dining
A Warm Welcome

Page-3As the weather starts heating up, Samui welcomes in the New Year with a blast of ice water!

Welcome to the year 2556. Confused? Well, you’re not suffering excessive jetlag, but this is in fact the Thai New Year that starts on the 13th of April, according to the Buddhist calendar. If you’re in Thailand over this time, you’ll enjoy a New Year’s celebration like no other – in the form of the world’s biggest water fight. No one is spared a good dousing, a welcome relief in one of the hottest months of the year. Don a colourful shirt, load up your water guns and buckets, and as they say, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”

This year Easter falls on the 31st of March, so if you’re after your chocolate fix, head to one of Samui’s world-class restaurants and look out for chocolate treats on the dessert menu. In this issue we feature stories on Bandara’s Chom Dao restaurant in Bophut, and we let you in on some exciting changes at Impiana Resort’s Tamarind Bar & Lounge.

If you’re into things sparkly, we have two stories on gems - one where we showcase Samui Lapidary, the island’s oldest jewellery store, and the other portrays the flashy and fabulous 9Gems Lounge Restaurant.

So, maybe the Mayans didn’t really think that the world was going to finish on 21st December 2012. Perhaps they just didn’t get around to making the second part of their calendar before they disappeared from the face of the Earth. Either way, I’m still here, you’re still here, and this wonderful life on our idyllic little island in the Gulf of Siam is going on as normal – thank you very much.

Happy Easter, happy Thai New Year and happy exploring!
