BEACH CHIC
Beach Republic - not quite a country, but certainly a state of mind.

Beach Republic - not quite a country, but certainly a state of mind. When Beach Republic opened, in 2004, it certainly hit the ground running, and quickly acquired a name as the place to go if you wanted to chill out and enjoy the beach. It’s certainly stood the test of time. It offers anything you want from a snack all the way up to luxury vacations. Drop in for a coffee or come and stay for a month, the choice is yours. And there are a great variety of them at this über-relaxed resort.

Even if there’s no border control to get into Beach Republic, it’s a place apart, a chic destination that, as its name suggests, is focused on the sea and all the pleasures it has to offer. Though it falls short of being its own country, you certainly will feel different once you enter its territories; you’ll start to feel very relaxed and your cares will drop away from you. In short, it’ll give you a greater sense of wellbeing.

You’ll find Beach Republic nestling into a small promontory at the eastern edge of Lamai. (Look out for the signs as you drive along the ring-road.) It’s well away from the town itself, and is a few hundred metres up a small track. It’s close to nature and you’ll find palm trees, white sand and everything you’d expect of a tropical coastline.

Whether you want to relax by the pool for the day, sit on the sands, or experience lavish spa treatments from around Asia, Beach Republic ensures that everything is geared to relaxation and enjoyment. The restaurant is very open air, and is as close to the sea as is humanly possible. Whether you’re seeking shade after swimming in the chemicalfree pool or have dropped in for a guest DJ or live performance,Beach Republic - not quite a country, but certainly a state of mind. the food is on tap, so to speak, and is excellent. The staff are on hand to make sure that everyone is having a great time. They’re a great team, always welcoming and never obtrusive.

The food here is quality casual dining at all hours of the day. In addition to the very eclectic menu, there’s also a theme for every day of the week. It’s worth checking out Beach Republic’s Sunday Brunch, which operates from 11:30 am until 3:30 pm, with the DJ playing till sundown. The brunch features dozens of dishes, with fines de Claire oysters, Scottish salmon, Maine lobster, Spanish ham, roast beef and lamb, foie gras skewers, sea bass, canapés, sushi and a range of cold meats. There’s also plenty of Thai food, a barbecue station, desserts and an international cheeseboard. It’s a generous affair, so come hungry, or better still starve yourself for a few days in advance. It would be a feat to taste everything that’s on offer. At the same time, there’s access to the swimming pool and changing facilities, making this a great day out and one that’ll leave you feeling incredibly chilled.

On Wednesdays you’ll find Beach Republic’s Seafood Barbecue, running from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the bar naturally remaining open afterwards. Just pick the seafood you would like and have it weighed. There’s a choice of prawns, squid, sea bass, blue crab, green mussels and Phuket lobster. You then decide how you’d like your selection cooked. Barbecued, with green or red curry, stir-fried in various ways, tom yum or tom ka – it’s up to you. In addition, you can enjoy the beef, pork and chicken skewers. There’s also a salad bar, corn on the cob and jacket potatoes with sour cream and chive dressing.Beach Republic - not quite a country, but certainly a state of mind. The Sunday Brunch and Wednesday Seafood Barbecue are popular with just about everyone, including the island’s many ex-pats who like to drop in and sample what’s on offer.

In addition, on Monday nights there’s three hours of free-flow drinks (anytime you wish), on Tuesdays buy-one-get-one-free cerveza corona, all day happy hour and tapas discounts, on Wednesdays buy two bottles and get one free, a seafood grill on Thursdays, mojitos on Fridays, and again with three hours of free-flow drinks, anytime. And on Saturdays an all-day DJ party with two-for-one on all shots. And every day from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, enjoy the Sundown Salute, with two-for-one offers on bubbles, beers, wine and signature cocktails.

It’s not necessary to reserve for any of these events, and Beach Republic offers everything at a very attractive price. Everyone’s welcome. Many guests come to Beach Republic for a manicure and to get gel nails. There are ten colours to choose from and the process takes 90 minutes. And if you need a break from the beach, drop into Escape Break – a chance to play adrenaline-pumping games, where you and your partner or friends test your wits in live escape games and try to crack all the clues.

For those who want to stay on, this is also possible.
